A Helicopter Crashes into the Ocean Near Popular South Beach

On Saturday, February 19, 2022, around 1:10 p.m., a helicopter crashed into the water near South Beach, causing two individuals on board to be hospitalized. On 10th Street, Miami Beach police and fire rescue were dispatched to a helicopter crash. The helicopter crash-landed, causing a tremendous splash, into the frequented seas along South Beach’s beach, according to video released by Miami Beach police. Two of the three helicopter travelers are in “stable condition” after being brought to the neighboring Jackson Memorial Hospital, according to an announcement from the Miami Beach Police Department. The third passenger walked away from the accident without needing to be sent to the hospital. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was dispatched to the area to investigate alongside the National Transportation Safety Board, and two streets around the beach were blocked down by police. According to the FAA, the circumstances surrounding the incident are now “unknown.” The footage appeared to show the helicopter (Robinson R44) losing engine power, according to Mary Schiavo, the former inspector general of the US Department of Transportation. She said that, based on the footage, it looked like the pilot was able to guide the helicopter away from people on the beach even as it was falling. However, the aviation authority announced that it, together with the National Transportation Safety Board, will examine the tragedy.
