Four People have Fled the Scene of a Hit-And-Run Incident that has Closed the Southbound Howard Frankland Bridge

On Saturday, April 16, 2022, around 5:20 a.m., according with Florida Highway Patrol, a hit-and-run collision on the Howard Frankland Bridge stopped all southbound lanes of I-275 and wounded a Tampa man. A Mercedes car was heading south on I-275 in the outside lane around Milepost 35. Another driver in a Nissan Pathfinder, trailering a boat, was driving parallel in the middle lane. According to troopers, the motorist of the sedan lost control of the car for an unknown cause and proceeded to the outer shoulder of the road, finally hitting with a barrier wall. The sedan returned to the lane, but then collided with the trailer being hauled by the Pathfinder. Following the collision, the vehicle came to a halt in the I-275 traffic lanes. According to troopers, four unidentified persons in the vehicle left the scene on foot. A 36-year-old Tampa man suffered minor injuries in the incident, which shut down both southbound lanes of I-275 until 7:40 a.m., according to troopers. Anyone with information regarding the accident is encouraged to contact the Highway Patrol.
